Alpha Champion Drives for Dough at Joe Morgan Invitational

CHATSWORTH, Calif. — The 2003 RE/MAX World Long Drive senior champion and charter member of the elite Alpha Golf team, Eric Jones joined Major League Baseball Hall-of-Famer Joe Morgan in raising more than $75,000 to improve financial literacy in San Francisco Bay counties.

The Sixth Annual Joe Morgan Invitational, held recently at Diablo Country Club in Danville, Calif., raised over $75,000 for the Summit Bank Foundation, which seeks to improve financial literacy of California public schools in the Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

Playing an Alpha C830.2 driver, Jones was stationed at the 18th tee, where he blasted drives to within 100 yards of the green for each foursome in the tournament raising an additional $2,160. Foursomes in the scramble event paid $20 a ball for the opportunity to play Jones' best ball from fairway to green — an eagle opportunity for many players on the 478-yard par 5.

Jones also had a number of Alpha demo clubs at the 18th tee so players had the chance to try the longest drivers in the world for themselves. The response was terrific, says Jones, and he thinks there may have been quite a few Alpha converts as a result.

Eric Jones was friendly, professional and a dynamic addition to our fund-raising efforts, says Amanda Ferguson, executive director of the Summit Bank Foundation. The golfers had a great time on the final tee.

Jones is a regular competitor on the Long Drivers of America (LDA) tour and is currently ranked sixth in the world in the senior division. In October, Jones will defend his senior world long drive title in Mesquite, Nev., where last year he won the senior division with a 381-yard, 33-inch drive.

The Summit Bank Foundation was created by dedicated Bay Area business professionals under the direction of Summit Bank. The mission of the Foundation is to recognize and encourage corporate volunteerism and involvement in the nonprofit communities of Alameda and Contra Costa County. Proceeds from the Joe Morgan Invitational will support initiatives to create and foster financial literacy and other educational opportunities in public schools.
