Go Online with Instruction
Questions Got
some problems with your golf game? Don't we all. Customize your own instruction
video at GolfDigest.com to get some help with what's ailing you.
Start the process by answering some simple questions about your best score, handicap,
gender and age. Then you can select from several categories of problems or concerns
you have with your game, as well as choose an instructor on the Golf Digest staff
whom you particularly enjoy. GolfDigest.com checks its database of videotaped
instruction clips to come up with a few that might meet your needs.
Sure, there are few flaws in this simple system. When we at The Wire punched in
lack of accuracy as a top concern, impact position as a secondary interest, and
putting as our third topic, four of the five clips offered were about putting.
None of the highlighted segments dealt with accuracy, but we were allowed to preview
and change the suggested offerings if they didn't meet with our approval.
The best part about this video instruction? It's free if you view it as streaming
video on GolfDigest.com's Web site. The viewing windows are small but the video
quality is smooth, and hey, free is a very good price. If you'd like it transfered
to a VHS video tape and mailed to your door, the cost is $19.95 -- still a reasonable
amount. For the
holidays, Golf Digest is offering a Gift Certificate for the customized videotape
lesson. Not a bad deal if you're still seeking an inexpensive gift for the golfer
on your holiday shopping list.
TAP-INS Spalding

according to Golf World Business, include Rick Watson, executive director for
clubs; Scott White, category director for Strata; and Ted Almy, category director
for Etonic.... Golf
Datatech, which tracks sales of golf equipment and rounds played, found that sales
of woods increased slightly in October, from $36.6 million in October 2000 to
$37.6 million this year. Putter sales also increased, but irons and golf bags
aren't selling as well. Both of those categories are down a few percentage points....

The 19th Hole As
usual this time of year, there are plenty of lists being checked. So The Wire
thought it would check one of its own. We want to know what/who you, the reader,
think is (1) the best course in the United States; (2) the course you most want
to play; (3) the best course designer -- past or present. Send your picks to stuart@gpagolf.com
with RE: Poll in the subject line and the results will be published in The Wire
in early January. |
