1935: Johnny Revolta defeats Tommy Armour 5 and 4 to win the PGA Championship at Twin Hills Country Club in Oklahoma City, Okla.

1935: Juan "Chi Chi" Rodriguez is born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico.

1965: Billy Casper wins the Sahara Invitational.

1983: Payne Stewart wins the Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Classic by two strokes over Nick Faldo and Mark McCumber.

1994: Bruce Lietzke wins the Las Vegas Invitational by one stroke over Robert Gamez.

Associations
The United States Golf Association awards more than $6 million in grants to 288 organizations around the country which work to make golf more accessible to children, especially those with lower incomes, and individuals with disabilities. Since 1997, the USGA has given more than $26 million in the areas of program development, course access, fiscal planning, public relations, and general resources and information.

Eleven-time PGA Tour champion Andy Bean and tennis Hall of Famer and two-time Celebrity Players Tour winner Ivan Lendl win the Delta Celebrity Challenge on The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, S.C. Proceeds from the event -- which last year totaled more than $300,000 -- benefit the Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital in Charleston, S.C.

For the first quarter of fiscal year 2002, Royal Precision, which makes the popular Rifle shaft, reports revenues of $6.7 million, compared to $7.0 million for the same quarter last year. According to company officials, the $1 million decrease in gross profit was because of lower absorption of manufacturing overhead costs in steel shafts and lower sales of golf club grips to Royal Precision's Japanese distributor.
