A Look Back: August 7

   1960: Arnold Palmer overcomes a five-stroke deficit in the final round of the Insurance City Open to force a playoff with Jack Fleck and Bill Collins, which Palmer wins.
   1983: Twenty-five-year-old Hal Sutton shoots a 10-under 274 to beat Jack Nicklaus, 43, by one stroke in the PGA Championship at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
   1988: Jodie Mudd's shoots a final-round 70 to hold off hard-charging Peter Jacobsen and Nick Price, who each finish with a 66, to win the Federal Express St. Jude Classic by one stroke.
   1988: Gary Player shoots a 68 in a playoff with Bob Charles to win the U.S. Senior Open at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club. Charles shot a 70.
   1994: Fred Couples wins the Buick Open by two shots over Corey Pavin and runs his streak of consecutive years with at least one PGA Tour win to five.

Business
Despite strong sales of its Rifle shaft, Royal Precision reports its revenues are down for the fourth quarter. Net income fell from 8 cents a share in the comparable period last year to 6 cents a share this year, and for the year the company had a loss of 10 cents a share. The loss was impacted by $1.5 million of nonrecurring charges.

It is a mixed bag for Women's Golf Unlimited, formerly Square Two Golf, as it reports that sales increased 38 percent in the second quarter but net income declined. The company sells the Square Two line of Clubs, NancyLopezGolf, Lady Fairway and other women's golf accessories.
