Forum Recently,
Tiger Woods was asked to comment on whether women should be invited to join traditionally
men-only golf clubs like Augusta National and Muirfield. "It's
one of those things where everyone has ... they're entitled to set up their own
rules the way they want them," Woods said. As
the world's No. 1 golfer and an established sports celebrity, what is Tiger's
role or responsibility in speaking up on social issues, like opening golf's exclusive
venues to women members? Let

Casual Friday
Play a Round
with Tiger Psst.
Hey, buddy, want to play a round with Tiger?
What? Yeah, that's
right. Tiger Woods. The Man. The greatest golfer on the planet.
What's the catch?
It'll cost you. About $100,000.
And that's the absolute truth. Bob Ritonya, a postal clerk from Omaha, Neb., is
trying to peddle a round of golf with Tiger Woods. Problem is, so far he's not
found any takers.
Ritonya bought several decks of sports cards this year and included in the bunch
was a card giving him a round with Tiger. Ritonya has hopes of selling the card
for $100,000 or so to provide for his children's college educations.
Surely there must be a taker for this sort of prize, but Ritonya just hasn't yet
found the one who is sufficiently well-heeled to afford it.
And that set Casual Friday wondering: What would Casual Friday do if offered the
chance to play a round of golf with Tiger Woods?
With all the deliberation it takes to order a second Budweiser at the bar, Casual
Friday decided to pass.
Nothing against Tiger, but who needs the embarrassment? Casual Friday has been
known to toe the occasional drive (OK, it's more than occasional some days), chili-dip
a wedge and leave a three-foot putt short. Playing with a guy like Woods, Casual
Friday would do well to hit one decent shot the entire round.
Plus, there's always the chance of hitting Tiger with an errant shot, or sending
him into such fits of laughter that he might strain something. How'd you like
to responsible for putting Tiger Woods out of action for a few weeks because he
fell into the bunker laughing so hard when you whiffed that two-footer on No.
15. Or even worse,
something about Casual Friday's game might rub off on Tiger, send his game plummeting
to such depths that he's walking around mumbling to himself. Forget about Tiger's
"A game," he'd be happy with his "D game." Certainly he wouldn't intentionally
watch Casual Friday's swing (Please, Mr. Woods, don't watch!), but he might accidentally
catch a glimpse of something awful. Maybe the beer girl drives by in a halter
top about the time Casual Friday is doing some trench work with a 5-iron behind
his ball on that approach to the home hole.
Then at the Masters next year, you see Tiger hit his second shot fat on the 13th
and you just know exactly where that little beauty came from.
No, the downside is just way too steep to play a round with Tiger Woods.
Ed Fiori, now that's another matter entirely. Casual Friday would shell out some
bucks just to see "The Grip" in action again. FIRST
CUT Thursday
was a good day for some former UCLA teammates.
Steve Pate, who has suffered with physical problems for the past several years,
grabbed the lead in International. Two points back is Duffy Waldorf, Pates' old
teammate with the Bruins.
On the Buy.com Tour, former PGA Tour player Jay Delsing has a one-shot lead over
three players in the Omaha Classic.
Corey Pavin, who played with Pate, Waldorf and Delsing, was the only Bruin with
anything to complain about. The former U.S. Open champion had two bogeys and one
double at The International and is five points in the hole entering the second
round. DOUBLE
