1961: Bob Goalby birdies a PGA Tour record eight straight holes in a row en route to a final-round 65 and the St. Petersburg Open title.

1972: Tony Jacklin beats John Jacobs in a playoff to win the Jacksonville Open.

1978: Jack Nicklaus closes with a 3-over-par 75 to win the Tournament Players Championship by a shot over Lou Graham at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

1989: Tom Kite wins The Players Championship by a stroke over Chip Beck.

1995: Loren Roberts becomes the first player to successfully defends his title at the Nestle Invitational, beating Brad Faxon by two strokes at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, Fla.

The U.S. Golf Association announces that Craig Parry and Peter O'Malley, currently the two leading golfers on the PGA Tour of Australasia, have earned exemptions into this year's U.S. Open because of their money earnings and world ranking as of March 18.
