The NFL Golf Classic ceremony will take place immediately on the 18th green after the second round on June 1. Representatives from the Fund, the New York City mayor's office, and the New York Police and Fire Departments have been invited to attend. World Golf Hall of Fame member Raymond Floyd will speak on behalf of the PGA TOUR/SENIOR PGA TOUR. Details on the Buick Classic and Lightpath Long Island Classic presentations will be announced shortly. "The New York Police and Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund has brought comfort and support to hundreds of families in the worst of times, particularly within the last nine months," said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. "The PGA TOUR is pleased to be able to play a small role in supporting their wonderful efforts. We wish to thank all the people and organizations who contributed to the PGA TOUR's relief fund and made this contribution possible." The New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund, Inc. was established in 1985 by former Major League Baseball player and New York Met Daniel J. "Rusty" Staub to assist the families of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty. Stephen Dannhauser, executive partner of the New York City law firm Weil, Gotshal and Manges, is president. Though the charity was initially created to assist the families of police officers and firefighters only, it has included the families of Port Authority officers and Emergency Medical Services since the tragic events of September 11th. The Fund gives grieving families a $25,000 check immediately after they lose a loved one, regardless of financial need. In addition to dealing with the loss of a loved one, families often become burdened with lifelong financial hardships. Since the establishment of the Fund, it has made an annual distribution to every widow. The amount given to each widow escalates each year depending on the amount of funds raised. On October 1, 2001, the Fund's 16th anniversary, it distributed $2,100 to over 450 widows, totalling $945,000. The charity has continued to dispense funds and as of March 27, 2002, had distributed an additional $43 million to the families of firefighters and police officers (including Port Authority and EMS) killed in the line of duty. The total amount distributed to help these families defray housing and medical expenses is over $52 million. The Fund's Web site address is www.nypfwc.org. Donations may be sent to:
