Teens On The Green Offers Diversity, Education, Great Junior Golf Contact Renny Roker MIRAMAR, Fla. (April 14, 2003) - The city of Clearwater will play host April 18 - 20 to the 2003 opening tournament of the Teens On The Green World Championship Junior Golf Series at the Belleview Biltmore Golf Resort & Spa. Approximately 120 junior golfers from around the world will vie for the Championship which would provide them with a trip to the European Junior Golf Championships in Latvia, and the 2003 Teens On The Green World Championship Finale in the Virgin Islands. The Teens On The Green World Championship series will be broadcast on the Golf Channel, BET, MBC, several NBC affiliates, Brighthouse Networks (the former Time Warner Cable) in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco Counties. The Presenting Sponsor of this tournament is the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Convention & Visitors Bureau. The show will be broadcast in more than 125 million homes worldwide. Participating countries and states include, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Japan, Denmark, Colombia, Canada, Korea, St. Kitts, Antigua, California, Minnesota, Ohio, New York, Florida, and more. All of these youngsters are 12 handicaps or lower, and C+ or better academic average, with many of these competitors playing to single digit handicaps and 3.7+ GPA's. "At Teens On The Green, our motto is 'Where low scores and high grades count'", noted Renny Roker, founder and C.E.O. "Our mission is for every youngster to earn a scholarship to college. College coaches and administrators will be on hand to provide scholarship information to players and their parents", he added. Scores in the 60's and low 70's will prevail. Locally, 15-year-old Jonathan Berger from Clearwater (9 handicap) will be among the top golfers along with Tony Diaz Jr., age 16 (7 handicap), Christina Gray, age 13, (10 handicap), and Steven Fox, 11 years old (3.8 handicap), all from the Tampa area. The first Tee Time is at 7:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday, April 19 & 20. Adult Pro-Am and practice round for juniors is Friday, April 18 at 1:00 PM. Pro-Am features "Adopt A Junior Golfer" charity which provides Razor Golf's "Firestorm" Teens On The Green golf clubs and bag set for St. Petersburg/Clearwater youngsters.
