PGA Tour's Champions Tour Players Commit To Visit Oregon To Compete In The Jeld-Wen Tradition Presented By Umpqua Bank

PORTLAND, Ore. (August 14, 2003) - Some familiar Champions Tour players have committed to compete in the JELD-WEN Tradition presented by Umpqua Bank, the fifth and final major of the season.

"The JELD-WEN Tradition is the final major on the Champions Tour schedule, so it is sure to bring the best field of the year," said Ed Ellis, tournament director. "We are thrilled with the players who have already committed to play, and we look forward to announcing the final 78-player field in the weeks to come."

The tournament will feature a total of 78 Champions Tour professionals competing for a purse of $2.2 million. It takes place August 28-31, at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Ore.

The following Champions Tour players have committed:

  • Jack Nicklaus is a member of World Golf Hall of Fame with 71 PGA Tour victories and 10 Champions Tour victories. He is the only player to have ever won all four majors on the PGA TOUR and the Champions TOUR.
  • Chi Chi Rodriguez is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame with eight PGA TOUR victories and 22 Champions Tour victories.
  • Tom Watson, a World Golf Hall of Fame member, is a 38-time winner on the PGA TOUR. In 2002, Watson had 10 top-10 finishes, including a victory at the 2002 SENIOR TOUR Championship.
  • Fuzzy Zoeller, a 10-time winner on the PGA TOUR, joined the Champions Tour in 2002. His victory at the 2002 SENIOR PGA Championship was his first in more than 15 years.
  • Bob Gilder, a native Oregonian, has six Champions Tour victories and seven PGA TOUR victories. Since his first full year on the Champions Tour in 2001, Gilder has placed in the top 10 on the official money list and won at least two events each season.
  • Hale Irwin, a World Golf Hall of Fame member, holds 36 Champions Tour victories, which include seven major titles. First on the official Champions Tour career money list, Irwin was voted 2002 Champions Tour Player of the Year, the third time he has earned this honor.
  • Bruce Lietzke, a 13-time winner on the PGA TOUR, joined the Champions Tour in 2001, winning at least two tournaments and earning more than $1 million during each season.
  • Craig Stadler joined the Champions Tour in 2003 after winning 12 PGA TOUR events. He went on to win both a PGA TOUR and Champions Tour event so far in 2003.
  • Lanny Wadkins holds 21 PGA TOUR victories and one Champions Tour victory. In 2002, he sandwiched his Tour schedule around CBS Golf Telecasts, where he assumed the role as lead analyst.
