(July 21, 2003) - British Open Champion Ben Curtis, the ninth player in history to mark his first Tour victory in a major championship, became the third player this season to earn a berth in the 2003 PGA Grand Slam of Golf. The 2003 PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which brings together the winners of the year's four major championships, is Dec. 5-6, at Poipu Bay Golf Course & Hyatt Regency Kauai in Hawaii. Curtis, who was the only player to complete 72 holes under par with a 1-under-par 283 at Royal St. George's in Sandwich, Kent, England, joins Masters Champion Mike Weir and U.S. Open Champion Jim Furyk in the elite foursome. The final member of the elite foursome will be determined following the conclusion of the 85th PGA Championship, Aug. 14-17, at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y. Poipu Bay Golf Course and the Hyatt Regency Kauai Resort & Spa mark their 10th consecutive year in hosting the winners of the Masters, U.S. Open, British Open and PGA Championship. The two-day, 36-hole event features a $1,000,000 purse. Last year's PGA Grand Slam of Golf saw Tiger Woods capture the annual showdown of major champions for a fifth straight time with a tournament and course-record of 11-under-par 61. He finished with a record 17-under-par 127 to win by 14 strokes over Justin Leonard and David Love III. PGA Champion Rich Been finished fourth.
