GolfRanger Systems Surveys 23 Las Vegas Area Courses
Contact Steve Seidensticker SAN DIEGO (May 28, 2002) - GolfRanger Systems has just completed surveys of 23 golf courses in the Las Vegas area. The survey maps will be added to those provided to purchasers of GPS-Caddy and will also be made available to current owners of GPS-Caddy at no charge. This means that GPS-Caddy users can use their systems on the Las Vegas courses as well as the Southern California courses. The course maps consist of the locations of greens, bunkers, and other hazards at Angel Park (both courses), Bali Hai, Casablanca, Desert Pines, Desert Rose, Legacy, Oasis (both), Painted Desert, Paiute (all three), Palms, Reflection Bay, Rhodes Ranch, Rio Secco, Royal Links, Siena, Stallion Mountain (all three), and Wildhorse. The data includes two playing hints for every hole, one from the tee, and one when the player comes within 200 yards of the center of the green. These hints are created by local pros familiar with the course. GPS-Caddy is a golfer-owned, handheld unit that displays yardage to bunkers, other hazards, and the front/center/back of the green along with playing hints for that hole. The golfer can even measure the distance of his/her last shot. The heart of the system is a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver that clips to a handheld computer. The entire package weighs about 10 ounces and can be carried in the pocket of a golf bag or can be mounted on a cart. All the golfer has to do is take GPS-Caddy to a course, turn it on, and read the display. The unit automatically determines what course the golfer is playing and follows him or her from hole to hole. A map of all the features of the course resides in the computer's memory. A GPS-Caddy owner may create maps for his or her favorite courses. The process is very simple and all the tools are provided. For Southern California and Las Vegas area golfers GPS-Caddy comes with a CD containing maps for over 90 courses. The company is expanding this mapping effort with the goal of mapping 5000 U.S. courses in three years. GPS-Caddy is available today directly from GolfRanger Systems for the Palm III, V, and VII, plus IBM Workpad PC Companion computers, and the Palm Powered HandEra 330. Call toll-free 877-477-2299 or visit http://www.gps-caddy.com. The price for the GPS receiver, the GPS-Caddy software, and course data is $249. About GolfRanger Systems, Inc. GolfRanger Systems, Inc. is a pioneer in bringing GPS technology to the average golfer. GPS originally was a multi-billion dollar system developed by the U.S. Department of Defense to ensure the accurate navigation of planes, ships, and land vehicles during time of war. Several years ago signals from the 24 GPS satellites have been made available for civil and commercial applications. GolfRanger Systems is the first company to take these navigational signals and make them into a system that can be purchased by the average golfer and used on any course in the world. The system provides distances from the golfer's current position to every feature on the hole between the golfer and the green. This includes distances to the front and back of hazards that lie between the golfer and the target, distances to other features that may come into play, and the front/center/back of the green. This information is vital to all golfers who want to improve their game. GolfRanger Systems, Inc. is privately held. More information is available at http://www.gps-caddy.com.
