Experience Clubessential(July 29, 2003) - Clubessential, LLC, is now offering customers the flexibility to distribute a variety of media formats to their club members. The new product, called CE Media Services, delivers large files and streaming video over the Web by matching viewing capabilities to the user's computer hardware. Without such adjustments, some users would experience unacceptable viewing delays or poor quality video.

The following functionality is offered to Clubessential clients as part of CE Media Services:

Large File Downloads.

CE Media ServicesMany clubs produce large files they would like to share with their members. They might, for example, produce a four megabyte PDF file of their newsletter, large album of photographs, or perhaps a three megabyte Word file describing an event. If these large files are posted directly to clients' Web sites, it could degrade Web response times when multiple members attempt to download the file simultaneously. CE Media Services allows the posting of files larger than one megabyte on special servers dedicated to this task. Clubs can place links to the files anywhere in their Web site, or even in emails sent to users, without fear that the large files will interfere with normal Web site traffic. Files will work in many formats, including videos, Word files, Excel files and zipped file archives.

Streaming Video.

Some clubs would like to post lengthy videos for their members to view. Clubessential has specialized servers to host streaming video that offer the following advantages:

  • Compression. Clubessential's technicians will compress large video files so they can be transmitted quickly over the Internet.

  • Resolution Control. Clubessential will create multiple versions of each video file, with differing degrees of resolution, so that viewers with less capable equipment can still enjoy the videos, though at a resolution appropriate for their computer. Clubessential's servers automatically determine which resolution best matches the viewer's bandwidth.

  • Streaming. Viewing can begin shortly after clicking, because Clubessential's servers "stream" the compressed data to the viewer's computer as it is played. If it were not for this "streaming," the user would have to wait for the entire file to download before any viewing could begin.

  • Bandwidth Throttling. Clubessential's servers monitor the number of members who are attempting to view simultaneously, and gracefully limit the maximum bandwidth consumed. Imagine, for example, that a club posts a video of Tiger Woods playing in a tournament and 300 people want to view it at once. Without some kind of bandwidth throttling, communication channels would be overwhelmed and no one would be able to enjoy the video.

CE Media Services are offered at three price levels based on the volume of activity desired. For more information, contact Clubessential at 800-448-1475 or request information at http://www.clubessential.com/contactus/.
