Toshiba Signs Three-Year Extension As Title Sponsor Of Champions Tour's Toshiba Senior Classic Contact Chris Premer NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (March 21, 2003) - Toshiba Computer Systems Group has signed a three-year contract extension to serve as title sponsor of the Toshiba Senior Classic. The contract runs through the year 2006. "We're proud to continue our support of a great community event like the Toshiba Senior Classic," says Rod Keller, executive vice president of Toshiba Computer Systems Group. "This tournament is the centerpiece of Toshiba's marketing efforts. It enables us to showcase our products, enhance our relationships with customers and give back to the community on behalf of our employees. The Toshiba Senior Classic has been perhaps the greatest success story on the Champions Tour, and we look forward to continuing that tradition for the next three years." The tournament will continue to be held at Newport Beach Country Club for the next three years and the professional purse will increase each year. In the last five years under the title sponsorship of Irvine-based Toshiba Computer Systems Group, and the management of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, the Toshiba Senior Classic has raised more than $4.7 million in net proceeds for more than 20 charities. This is the largest individual tournament contribution total on the Champions Tour over the five-year period. "We cannot say enough about Toshiba's ongoing support of this tournament," explains Toshiba Senior Classic Tournament Director Jeff Purser. "The Toshiba Senior Classic has made a profound impact on the lives of Orange County residents through its financial support of Hoag Hospital and other important charities. Toshiba Computer Systems Group has committed itself to this community in a way that truly deserves the highest praise." "The Toshiba Senior Classic is a fantastic success story," said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. "Toshiba and Hoag Hospital have teamed to do great things for their community, the Hospital and golf fans of southern California. The Champions Tour applauds this partnership and looks forward to three more very successful years beyond this week's tournament." Toshiba Computer Systems Group has served as the title sponsor of Orange County's Champions Tour event since its inception in 1995. Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian has been the event organizer since the 1998 event. The 2003 Toshiba Senior Classic marks the final year of a three-year deal signed in 2000. Toshiba and Hoag originally agreed to their first three-year deal in 1997. The ninth annual Toshiba Senior Classic first round gets underway today at Newport Beach Country Club in Newport Beach. It concludes on Sunday. The $1.55 million event plays host to 81 professional players from the Champions Tour. Hale Irwin is the defending champion. The event is operated by Hoag Hospital Foundation, which also serves as the tournament's lead beneficiary. For information, call 949/660-1001 or log on to ToshibaSeniorClassic.com.
