Zack Smith CARLSBAD, Calif. (February 14, 2002) -- TaylorMade Golf today announced it will retain all equipment, headwear and tour staff bag rights to long-time company PGA Tour staff members Kenny Perry and Ian Leggatt. Both will play 11 TaylorMade clubs in total, including the company's 300 Series driver and 300 forged irons. Leggatt, however, will also wear adidas Golf's Z TRAXION(R) Tour shoes. Perry originally signed with TaylorMade-adidas Golf in 1994, while this is the sixth season Leggatt has played the company's equipment (although he only officially came on board as a tour staff pro in 2001). "These guys, combined, have been a part of our family for nearly a decade and a half," said Joe Moses, global senior director of sports marketing. "And during that time, they've been true ambassadors of TaylorMade-adidas, making an impact both on and off the golf course." Moses detailed the recent tour success of both, noting that in 2002 alone, Perry is No. 1 in scoring average (69.05) and top-10 finishes (three) among all PGA Tour pros. In addition, he holds a top-five spot in greens in regulation (second at 79.1%) and driving distance (fourth at 296.5 yards). He also pointed to Leggatt's dramatic driving distance improvement in 2001 (up 13 yards), his first full year with the 300 Series driver. Off the course, Moses made reference to both player's contributions to their communities. Perry is the winner of the 2002 Charles Bartlett Award, given annually by the Golf Writers Association of America to reflect a professional golfer's long-serving, unselfish aid. Throughout his career, Perry has donated five percent of his winnings to his wife's alma mater to fund a pair of scholarships, while in 1995 he opened his hometown of Franklin, Ky.'s first public course, designing it as an affordable venue for mid- to high- handicappers. Leggatt currently works with disabled kids and is sponsored by the Ronald McDonald Children's Charities. TaylorMade Golf has led the golf industry's technological evolution since being founded in 1979. In 1998 the company joined with adidas Golf, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of adidas-Salomon AG.
