Nike Golf Adds Footwear Shops To Build Upon Apparel's Early Success Haggin Oaks' Full-Line Display Leads the Way Contact Dean Stoyer BEAVERTON, OR (March 13, 2003) - Nike Golf, capitalizing on the success of its men's and women's apparel concept shops in 2002 has introduced a full-line footwear concept shop for on-course and off-course retailers. The first footwear concept shop, a 54-style display, was unveiled at Haggin Oaks in Sacramento, Calif. in early February. The immediate positive response from consumers and from Haggin owner Ken Morton Jr. prompted Nike Golf to expedite the delivery and introduction of 15 more footwear concept shops over the next two months, including four shops that will be installed by the end of March at: Chicago Golf and Tennis; Pine Oaks Country Club (Easton, Mass.); Golf Mart (Geneva, Ill.); and The Woodlands Country Club (Woodlands, Texas). "I've been in the footwear business for more than 12 years and don't think that I have seen a program as successful as this - we went in the door with nearly 300 pairs of Nike Golf shoes and had to re-supply Haggin with about half of that order within 10 days...in early February. That's a success," said Mike Forsey, Nike Golf's Category Business Director for footwear. "This is the type of in-store presence on-course and at specialty shops that really drives consumers because it shows them the true breath and depth of our lines." Nike Golf's footwear market share grew to 18.6 percent (dollars/on-course and off-course combined) in calendar year 2002 which is more than double what the company's market share position was just three years prior at the end of 1999. In each of those years, from '99 through '02, Nike Golf has grown its footwear market share by nearly 30 percent. "We've grown footwear sales by more than 50 percent at this location for the month of February over the same period the year before," said Haggin Oaks owner Ken Morton, Jr. "Nike Golf has long had great footwear and now they have a beautiful showcase for it as well. That's what is making the difference." Nike Golf offers 54-styles of performance footwear for men, women and children including the Dri-FIT, Gore-Tex and DuraComfort Collections for men - many styles derived from the feedback of Tiger Woods and bearing his TW initials; the elegance and technology of the Verdana Collection for women; and the innovative and athletic styles of the Sport Collection for men and women. The footwear concept shops start at 100 square feet and can be built up to 250 square feet where space allows. Each branded space offers a wide variety of Nike Golf footwear if not the entire seasonal line. Nike Golf estimates that footwear sales are expected to be 20-to-30 percent higher in retail spaces that offer the Nike Golf footwear concept shops over traditional displays. By the end of 2002, Nike Golf had introduced more than 300 men's and women's apparel-specific concept shops around the country and a growing number outside of the U.S. To support its expanding efforts, Nike Golf dedicated 30 merchandisers to maintain its Concept Shops and Branded Presentations around the world. Nike Golf, located in Beaverton, Oregon, is passionately dedicated to honoring and respecting the traditions and heritage of the game, and to providing committed golfers with the absolute best equipment in the game in every product category.
