(July 29, 2003) - Tom Watson's victory in the Senior British Open moved
him closer to Craig Stadler who recently took over first place in the
Power Performance Rankings. When senior players first talked about the
need for a ranking system, one reason was to potentially exempt some
of the top players into prestige regular tour events. Stadler and Watson
have proven over recent weeks that there is merit to that idea. Watson
has been exempted into the PGA Championship.
Other moves in the PPR: Tom Kite went from 12th to 10th with his finish
at the Senior British Open. Dana Quigley jumped from 22nd to 18th. Stewart
Ginn moved form 24th to 19th. Eamonn Darcy debuted at 28th.
Vicente Fernandez dropped three places from 6th to 9th; John Mahaffey
dropped from 29th to 34th; Wayne Levi fell from 35th to 38th; Roger Davis,
from 39th to 44th.
Biggest move: David Eger catapulted his standing from 26th to 13th.
Last column is position on Champions Tour money list.
