Jim Furyk Moves To World No.3 After Victory In The Buick Open

(August 4, 2003) - On the US PGA Tour this week, US Open Champion Jim Furyk won the Buick Open by two strokes from Chris DiMarco, Tiger Woods, Briny Baird and Geoff Ogilvy. Jim improves 3 spots to a career-high World Ranking position of No.3 and up to No.2 on the PGA Tour money list with $4,401,313 - second to Tiger Woods with $4,810,496. Of the runners up, Tiger Woods remains at the top of the World Ranking and is now 7.87 points clear of World No.2 Ernie Els; Chris DiMarco enjoys a 3-place jump to No.14; Briny Baird moves into the Top-100 at No.84 while Geoff Ogilvy becomes the 11th highest-ranked Australasian as he moves to just outside the World Top-100 at No.101.

The European Tour moved on to the Scandic Carlsberg Scandinavian Masters at the Barseback Golf and Country Club in Sweden. Adam Scott secured a 2-shot victory and the Australian jumps 14 positions to World No.34. Runner-up Nick Dougherty produced his best European Tour Performance and he rises 65 positions to World No.202.

On the Japan Golf Tour this week, Taichi Teshima won the Y120,000,000 Aiful Cup at Golf Club Twinfields and Taichi is now the new World No. 128 and the sixth-highest ranked golfer from Japan.

In the week's other tournaments, Jason Bohn won the Chattanooga Classic at the Black Creek Club and Jason improves 135 spots to No.380. In the Greater Vancouver Classic on the Canadian Tour, Amateur James Lepp moves to World No. 569=. In the Talma Finnish Challenge on the European Challenge Tour, Australian Marcus Fraser was victorious and moves to No. 346.
