World No.2 Ernie Els Wins The Barclays Scottish Open At Loch Lomond

(July 14, 2003) - On the European Tour this week, Ernie Els prepared for his defence of the Open Championship with a five-stroke victory in the The Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond in Scotland. Els remains both at World No.2 and atop of the Volvo Order of Merit with O1,836,385. The South-African adds the Barclays Scottish Open to the four worldwide titles he has already won this year - The Mercedes Championships; The Sony Open in Hawaii, The Heineken Classic and The Johnnie Walker Classic. Runner-up Phillip Price is now the top-ranked Welshman in the world as he continued his rise up the Official World Golf Ranking by breaking into the World Top-50 at No.45. Darren Clarke improves 9 positions to No.17.

In the Greater Milwaukee Open on the US PGA Tour, Kenny Perry won his third tournament of 2003 and he moves up 3 places and into the Top-10 at No.8.

On the Japan Golf Tour this week, Toshimitsu Izawa won the Y100,000,000 Woodone Open Hiroshima at the Hirosima Country Club for his second consecutive victory. Toshimitsu improves 15 positions on the World Ranking to No.54.

In the week's other tournaments, Joe Ogilvie won the Reeses Cup Classic on the US Nationwide Tour and he improves 47 spots to World No.275. In the Open des Volcans Challenge de France, the Spaniard Ivo Giner secured a three-shot victory and he moves up 146 positions on the World Ranking to No. 394. In the MTS Classic on the Canadian Tour, 25-year old Oshawa native Jon Mills secured his first Canadian Tour title at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in Winnipeg. Jon is the new World No.571.
