Hunter Mahan Agrees To Multi-Year Contract With PING Contact Pete Samuels Mahan, who recently completed his junior year at Oklahoma State, will make his professional debut at this week's Western Open on the PGA Tour playing PING clubs, including the Si3 Driver, i3+ Irons, PING Wedges and a PING Putter. He'll also carry a PING Staff Bag and wear a PING Hat. "Hunter represents an important addition to our staff of professionals," said Solheim. "His collegiate record was second to none and we anticipate he'll continue that success as he joins the professional ranks. Just as important, he's a quality young man whose values are consistent with the kind of person we want associated with our brand." In addition to earning the Jack Nicklaus and Fred Haskins Awards as college player of the year, the 21-year-old Mahan was co-recipient of the Ben Hogan Award and a two-time, first team All-American at Oklahoma State. He also completed the 2003 college season ranked #1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. His runner-up finish in the 2002 U.S. Amateur earned him an invitation to his first Masters this year, where he demonstrated his power off the tee by leading the entire field in driving distance using the new PING Si3 Driver. "Two years ago at college I had my first experience with PING clubs and the Solheim family," said Mahan, the winner of eight collegiate tournaments during his career. "Ever since, my golf game has steadily improved. I have confidence that PING's team of engineers and tour staff will provide me the product and service I'll need to compete at the highest level. The multi-year contract shows the Solheim family's commitment to helping me focus on playing my best golf and not having to worry about anything else." "Hunter exemplifies today's young professional," added Solheim. "He's long off the tee, shoots for the pin and is bold with his putter. He's the type of player that fits our commitment to designing the highest performing, highest quality equipment available." Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. |
