(April 7, 2003) - Edward Loar's victory in the Thailand Open yesterday moved him into 16th position on the Asian PGA Tour Order of Merit.

The American triumphed by five shots at Krisada Hills City Golf and won US$24,225 to take his earnings for the year to US$33,448. He leapt up the rankings from 51st place.

It was Loar's maiden victory as a professional and he also enjoyed the distinction of becoming the first lefthander to win an Asian PGA event.

Australian Jason Dawes finished second at Krisada Hills and went into 34th place.

India's Arjun Atwal and China's Zhang Lian-wei did not play in Thailand but still hold the top two positions on the money list. Atwal's victory in the Carlsberg Malaysian Open, which was joint-sanctioned with the European Tour, helped him into a handsome lead on the list. He holds the number one position with US$218,244.

Zhang, winner of the joint-sanctioned Caltex Masters Presented by Carlsberg, is in second spot on US$155,570. Australian Brad Kennedy and Canadian Rick Gibson lie in third and fourth position respectively.

The Thailand Open was the seventh event of the season on the Asian PGA Tour.
