ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (July 16, 2003) ‚ Ben Crenshaw, a World Golf Hall of Fame member and noted golf historian, has become a player ambassador for the Hall of Fame, joining current ambassadors Gary Player and Carol Mann. Crenshaw will work with the Hall of Fame to further communicate its mission, which is to honor the achievements of the gameís greatest players and contributors.

ìI'm looking forward to my new role with the World Golf Hall of Fame, and hope to help encourage all golfers to come to St. Augustine,î Crenshaw said. ìThe achievements of the members represent such rich traditions and pieces of golf history that anyone who loves the game should make it a point to visit.î

ìWe are privileged to have Ben join our team of player ambassadors,î said Jack Peter, Chief Operating Officer of the Hall of Fame. ìHis knowledge and passion for the game go hand-in-hand with our mission and we look forward to working with him.î

Crenshaw recently shot a series of five public service announcements as part of a ìHall of Fame Storyteller Series.î The first spot, which features Crenshaw talking about Ben Hogan, will begin airing this weekend in the PGA TOURís B.C. Open broadcast on USA Network. Additional spots have Crenshaw talking about Nancy Lopez, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Sam Snead. The ìHall of Fame Storyteller Seriesî PSAs will air in various tournament broadcasts throughout the year, including PGA TOUR, Champions Tour, LPGA and PGA of America events..

The World Golf Hall of Fame worked with PGA TOUR Productions and the Austin, Tex.-based advertising agency GSD&M to develop the PSAs featuring Crenshaw.

Crenshaw became a Hall of Fame member in November as part of the 2002 induction class that included his longtime coach Harvey Penick, Tommy Bolt, Tony Jacklin, Marlene Hagge and Bernard Langer.

Crenshaw has won 19 PGA TOUR events, including two Masters Tournaments. He was a three-time NCAA champion at the University of Texas who joined the TOUR in 1973 and promptly won that yearís San Antonio-Texas Open. His first Masters victory came in 1984, but his most memorable career victory came in the 1995 Masters when, shortly after his mentor Penick died, Crenshaw gathered himself and his game for a highly emotional one-stroke victory.

Crenshaw also has participated on four Ryder Cup teams and in 1999 captained the U.S. Team to the greatest comeback in the competitionís history and its first victory since 1993. He currently plays on the Champions Tour.

The World Golf Hall of Fame, located at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla., is a collaboration of 26 national and international golf organizations, including the PGA TOUR, LPGA, USGA, Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Augusta National Golf Club and the PGA of America. The museum houses interactive displays, historic artifacts, a special exhibit gallery, an IMAX Theater and the Hall of Fame itself, which honors the gameís greatest players and contributors.

As sole founding partner of World Golf Hall of Fame, Shell Oil Company provides financial support and plays the lead role in charitable initiatives aimed at introducing golf to young people, and through the golf experience promotes scholastic achievement, community service and those values intrinsic to the game of golf: honesty, integrity and sportsmanship.
