Royal Precision Announces Frank W. Mertes Appointed as Vice President Finance And Chief Financial Officer

TORRINGTON, Conn. (January 2, 2002) -- Royal Precision, Inc. (Nasdaq: RIFL), the manufacturer of the Rifle(R) shaft, one of the most widely-used golf club shafts on the PGA Tour, announced today that Mr. Frank W. Mertes has been appointed Vice President Finance and Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. Mr. Mertes succeeds Mr. Kevin Neill, who has chosen not to transfer to Torrington, Connecticut, due to personal reasons.

Mr. Mertes, age 44, has over 15 years of finance, accounting and management experience in manufacturing environments. His experience includes servings as Corporate Controller, Assistant Treasurer and IT Manager for Telaxis Communications (Nasdaq: LISTED), a South Deerfield, MA-based provider of radio frequency products for broadband wireless access systems. Prior to this, he served as an independent financial and business consultant in New England. In addition, Mr. Mertes served as Director of Finance for Perstrop, Incorporated, a manufacturer of melamine and urea compounds and as Corporate Controller for Catamount Manufacturing, Incorporated, a supplier and manufacturer of plastic components. Mr. Mertes, also worked for Coopers & Lybrand as a certified public accountant. Mr. Mertes holds a M.B.A. from the University of Massachusetts.
