Don Padgett, Sr. Retains Role as Exec. V.P. of Golf Operations VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (November 30, 2001) -- Pinehurst, Inc. announced today that Matt Massei has been named its Director of Golf, a role he will officially assume on January 1, 2002. The decision was made in a direct effort to continue the strong golf legacy at Pinehurst, now under the supervision of Don Padgett, Sr. Padgett will serve as mentor to Massei as he continues in his role as the company's Executive Vice President of Golf Operations. "Matt has proven himself a strong and dedicated leader since joining us ten years ago," said Patrick Corso, President and Chief Executive Officer of Pinehurst. "In teaming Matt with Don Padgett, a pillar in the golf industry and our community, we believe the deep-rooted traditions of Pinehurst will only grow stronger in the years to come." Pinehurst hired Massei, a Class A Professional with the Professional Golfers Association of America, in 1991 as Assistant Golf Professional at the No. 7 course. He has since served as a teaching professional at the Pinehurst Main Clubhouse, and opened and served as the General Manager/Head Golf Professional of the highly acclaimed No. 8 Golf Course and Clubhouse. Most recently, Matt expanded his resort knowledge by serving as Rooms Division Manager at the Carolina hotel. As the Director of Golf, Massei will oversee the operations team as well as the resort's retail division, yield management and golf instruction departments at Pinehurst. He will report directly to Padgett and will serve on the Senior Executive team of Pinehurst. As the new director, he will also play a lead role in the development of overall golf strategy for The Pinehurst Company, the resorts and golf realty division of ClubCorp. "It is exciting to see the new faces of Pinehurst golf leadership rise up through the organization," said Padgett. "I look forward to working with Matt and continuing the legacy started here so long ago." Massei is a graduate of the University of Richmond and holds a B.A. in Marketing and Management.
