(October 3, 2001) -- Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) CEO Steve Mona, CAE, has selected Chuck Borman, CAE, to fill the association's vacant chief operating officer position.

Borman is a familiar face to GCSAA as he joins the association staff after serving as executive director of the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association, one of GCSAA's 102 affiliated chapters, since 1998. Before joining the Carolinas GCSA, Borman served on the GCSAA staff, first as the director of membership (1995-97) and then as a coordinating advisor (March 1997 - March 1998).

"I am pleased that Chuck has accepted our invitation to rejoin the GCSAA team," Mona said. "He has a proven track record that combines a strong association management background, a deep familiarity with GCSAA and the golf course management industry and a passion for the game of golf." As chief operating officer, Borman will oversee numerous GCSAA member programs and services in the areas of education, research, environmental stewardship, career development, member/chapter services, communications, government relations, information services, conference events and publications.

While serving as the Carolinas GCSA chief administrator, Borman managed its budget and staff; oversaw the planning and implementation of its annual trade show and conference; coordinated membership activities; and was the publisher of its magazine. A retired United States Army Lt. Colonel, he graduated with a business degree from Southwestern (Texas) University in 1977 and with a Master's in finance from Hardin-Simmons (Texas) University in 1981.

Since 1926, GCSAA has been the leading professional association for the men and women who manage and maintain golf facilities in the United States and worldwide. From its headquarters in Lawrence, Kan., the association provides education, information and representation to more than 21,000 individual members in more than 65 countries. GCSAA's mission is to serve its members, advance their profession and enhance the enjoyment, growth and vitality of the game of golf.
