(July 9, 2002) - St Andrews Links junior golf tournaments have attracted an impressive entry of young hopefuls from across the world. Held on 5-8 August on the Eden and Old Courses, the events are open to boys under 18 and girls under 23. The events have a new sponsor this year, Ben Hogan, which is already a major supporter of junior golf in St Andrews, having donated 100 sets of junior golf clubs to the St Andrews Links Junior Golf Association.

Competing for the Boys' Open title are youngsters from Spain, France and the USA. Last year's winner, Alan Martin from Eyemouth, is back to defend his title and two local boys, Scott and Ian Finlay are also taking part. The quality is continuing to improve with every player in the field of 150 playing off 7 or under.

A similarly impressive field is lining up for the Junior Ladies' Open and includes six players from England's elite squads, the current Universities Champion, Lynn Kenny, and former winner, Louise Kenney. International representation comes from Daria Anisimova from Moscow, taking part for the second year running, and players from Hong Kong and Bermuda. Local interest will be focused on St Regulus members Lauren McArthur, Krystle Caithness and Hannah Harvey, and Becky Copland, who is member at Scotscraig.
