USGA Launches Web Site For Resource Center For Individuals With Disabilities Contact Pete Kowalski FAR HILLS, N.J. (August 5, 2003) - A new Web site, to support its Resource Center for Individuals with Disabilities (www.resourcecenter.usga.org) has been launched, the United States Golf Association has announced. The Resource Center was created in 1999 in response to a growing number of individuals with disabilities entering the game through instructional programs funded by the USGA's $50 million "For the Good of the Game" grants program. The goal of the Resource Center is to act as an advocate for making the game of golf more accessible for individuals with disabilities by collecting and disseminating information related to this arena. The Resource Center provides information targeted for individuals with disabilities (already playing or beginners), individuals within the golf and medical industries, including golf teachers, therapists, golf course owners and operators and equipment vendors. The new Web site contains informational guides for golf course owners and operators, teaching guides, listings of adaptive equipment and success stories illustrating the impact golf has had on various individuals with disabilities. Furthermore, the site contains online databases, that allow viewers to search for and/or enter information about accessible courses, experienced golf teachers or therapists, tournaments and instructional programs in their localities. For more information about the Resource Center, other programs the USGA supports for golfers with disabilities, or the new Web site, please contact resourcecenter@usga.org or call 719-471-4810 x 15. |
