Reader's Forum Question: The Wire has asked about Player of the Year before in Reader's Forum, but now as the PGA Tour season has wrapped up, we'll find out what you think again: Who should be awarded Player of the Year honors: Vijay Singh with the tour money title and four wins; Tiger Woods with five wins; or possibly another player like Davis Love III or Mike Weir? Your Responses: The Vardon Trophy, more than anything else, is the indicator of the Player of the Year. Money varies from event to event. A poorly advertised event (no TV money) on a tougher course will taint the money title. Your score is how you are judged, amateur or otherwise. Woods won the Vardon, and it follows that he won the Player of the Year. J. Slater Vijay deserves to be POY simply because of his consistency throughout the year. Many people will dispute my contention and say that Tiger deserves it because he played less events and won more. I say playing less events is not necessarily a disadvantage for Tiger. When you consider how many events Vijay played and his performance in each of these events you have to give additional credit for the mental and physical durability needed to not only play but excel in a large number of events. That in addition to his 4 impressive wins is why Vijay Singh should be PGA Tour Player of the Year. J. Kelowitz Tiger or Vijay.... Tiger plays 15 tournaments; he will win his share of events. Out of the 15 tournaments, he's probably looking at the possibility of winning 5-10 events since he is so good at what he does. Vijay plays almost week after week; and to win even a few events is playing very strongly, very consistent. I like the player who challenges the tour week after week, not a player who chooses his events as to have the best possibility of a win. Vijay for Player of the Year. B. Speranzella Vijay couldn't carry Tiger's jock strap. If Tiger played as much as Vijay he'd have 3 more wins and lots more money. Vijay folds like a cheap suit every time they go head to head. Tiger never worries about getting beat by a girl. N. Wilks Tiger should get the honors, because he won in every third, start plus he had the lowest scoring average. Had Tiger played in as many tournaments as Vijay did, he most likely would have run away with the money title. R. Bennett The deserving PLAYER OF THE YEAR should goes to Mike Weir with ONE MAJOR WIN & 2 PGA TOUR WINS. By winning 2 Tour Win and a Major is shows that he his just as consistent and good though towards the end of the year he might not be playing that great but still at least he makes the cut each time ! So I am for Mike WEIR ! S. Lee This is a very difficult question to answer. All the players who are being considered for this great honor each is very deserving. I will be waiting to see who does win. BUT, in my humble opinion, the player who really deserves the honor is Chad Campbell because of the way he finished up the year with that terrific victory . WOW!!! L. Silver Tiger. Least amount of tournaments, longest string of cuts made, scoring average, world golf victories, 2nd on money list with 8 fewer tournaments. My Hands Down Pick. J. Beatty The Wire also received six responses that just said "Tiger Woods" and one that said "Vijay Singh".
