Reader's Forum Question: Annika Sorenstam completed a career Grand Slam and claimed her second major title of the season Sunday by winning the Weetabix Women's British Open. Is Sorenstam the best golfer in the world right now? If not, who is? Your Responses: Please, refrain from making an illogical leap. Annika is undoubtedly the best FEMALE golfer in the world. She is by no stretch of the imagination the best golfer in the world. I heard the commentator on the Golf Channel make the same mistake last evening. When will this nonsense end? Because golf is a game that employs a handicap system to allow enjoyable competition among players of unequal ability (male or female), has it become the battle field upon which a minority of women will try to prove once and for all that they are superior? If I beat my friend the 2-handicapper in match play because he gave me a stroke a hole, does that make me a better golfer? I think not. Come on, any man who has ever married and raised a family with their wife KNOWS that women are superior, or at least dares not admit otherwise! But it seems that for the present time Tiger Woods is still to be considered the best golfer in the world. Annika can only lay claim to the title Best FEMALE Golfer in the world. The study of Logic really need be made a requirement to graduate from high school in this country... M.W. Pajak Annika is the best female golfer in the world right now...and for some time past, and probably some time to come. She is also the most accomplished golfer of the past year...but that is relative to the respective tours. She's great but, yes, John Reiger would probably have won his proposed match against her. That takes nothing away from her accomplishments on the LPGA Tour and shouldn't...no, read "can't"... be compared. J. Brennan Tiger is the best golfer in the world. Annika is the best female golfer in the world. I predict that someday Michelle Wie will control women's golf like no other women golfer in history. Wie will play in many mens PGA events unless the PGA bans women from playing. G. Pryor Is there really any such thing as "THE BEST GOLFER IN THE WORLD"? Sure, Annika and Tiger have shown themselves to be top notch golfers. But, in my estimation, if someone is the best golfer is the world, no one would ever beat him/her. It stands to reason that no matter how good someone is, there will be times when he or she will not be at their best and someone else will be "THE BEST GOLFER IN THE WORLD" at that time. And, there will be many times that this will show up. L. Silver
