Question:

Who is your pick to win this week's British Open Championship at Royal St. George's? How important is it for Tiger Woods to win when he does not currently hold a major trophy?

Your Responses:

Winning another major now that Tiger doesn't own a current major trophy is important but not that important. He has already outperformed most expectations already. It is more important for some of the other "major contenders" who haven't won yet or who have not won as many as people believed they would win like Love, Furyk, Michelson, etc.

I played 6 years in the minor leagues before I made the major leagues for good in 1978. I began performing better when I got around better players. The level of play is catching up to Tiger because he has forced them to get better. One of "them" will win the 2003 Open. Put my $ on Els or Furyk.

You can laugh now, but I predict that David Duval will win the 2003 British Open, making his comeback official and complete. Ok he may not win this week, but I predict that Duval will win a second major before Mickelson wins his first. I also predict once again that a Swede or a Frenchman will contend for three rounds, with a monstrous number waiting for them on Sunday (maybe on the last hole).

I think that Justin Leonard is ready to do the deed again.

My pick for finishing first at the British Open is Padraig Harrington.

M. Lavalle

Ernie Els, winner.
