Question:

According to an article in the latest issue of BusinessWeek, Chi Chi Rodriguez is pitching an idea for a 10-tournament tour for senior players called the International Golf Tour that could launch as early as Thanksgiving. The idea is that 20 senior pros would play two days with an amateur team and the final day alone. Each pro would invest $50,000, and Rodriguez is soliciting sponsorships from corporations. Do you think such an idea would be profitable? Would you watch such an event? Do you think this new tour will harm, help, or have no effect on the Champions Tour?

Your Responses:

Just another way for old professional golfers to bled the corporations and public out of more money for them.

I think Chi Chi's idea is a good one.

I'm thinking this is what's called a corporate outing! Don't think it will affect the Champions Tour. It's a great idea and will be entertaining more than competitive. Probably good for TV too as a one-hour highlight package with lots of sound on humour etc. Gheeeeesh - I think I'd like to produce and broadcast this package! :)

It would be great if they come to St. Louis. We are starving for some kind of tournament. Maybe AB would buck up some $. How can I sign up to play?

Good idea! When the "senior tour" started a decade or so ago, it was a couple handfuls of legends. Their event in our area was an annual event that I looked forward to.

In the last several years, it has become just another tour -- stoic personalities competing in an early retirement fund for dozens of "grinders". The thrill of watching the legends was buried. Not much fun to watch that!

Maybe Chi-Chi's idea will rekindle the idea of real legends just out having fun and entertaining the fans.
