ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (August 5, 2002) - The 2002 World Golf Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held Friday, November 15, at the World Golf Hall of Fame located in World Golf Village in St. Augustine Florida. Commencing at 6:00 p.m., the ceremony is free and open to the public.

Honoring new members Tommy Bolt, Ben Crenshaw, Marlene Hagge, Tony Jacklin, Bernhard Langer, and Harvey Penick, the outdoor ceremony promises great fanfare, poignant moments and an invaluable lesson in how the game of golf continues to inspire and challenge fans more than 600 years after its inception.

This year's class of Inductees has amassed a total of 135 titles including eight major championships, among them: one British Open, two US Opens, four Masters, one LPGA Championship and competed on a total of 23 Ryder Cup teams and additionally served as Captain for five teams. The achievements of these immortals, spanning two generations, are incredibly exciting, and each in their own right wear the mantle of greatness in the true championship style. Crenshaw was elected through the PGA TOUR ballot.

Jacklin was elected through this year's International ballot and Langer through the 2001 International ballot, but he chose to be inducted this year. The World Golf Foundation Board of Directors selected Penick for Lifetime Achievement and Bolt for the Veteran category. Following Donna Caponi's election last year, Hagge is the third woman to be elected in the LPGA Veteran's Category. With these six new members, the total number of Hall of Fame inductees will increase to 96.

"This year's Induction Ceremony will entertain, educate and allow guests and viewers to share a part of history with these legends and visionaries of the game of golf," said Jack Peter, Chief Operating Officer of the World Golf Hall of Fame. "We are planning an entertaining and memorable ceremony sure to inspire fellow players and generate a greater appreciation of the game."

As golf's collective home to legendary players and contributors of the game, the World Golf Hall of Fame combines a multitude of historic artifacts with the latest in interactive technology. The World Golf Hall of Fame is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The World Golf Hall of Fame is the centerpiece of World Golf Village in St. Augustine, FL, and is a collaboration of the national and international golf organizations including the PGA TOUR, LPGA, USGA, Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Augusta National Golf Club and the PGA of America.

The World Golf Foundation oversees the World Golf Hall of Fame and the other nonprofit components of World Golf Village.
