Shepherd's Hollow Golf ClubCLARKSTON, Mich. (July 22, 2003) - Shepherd's Hollow Golf Club will host the inaugural Michigan Amateur Putting Championship Saturday and Sunday, August 23-24. The championship, a two-day, 36-hole event, is open to two-person teams of any composition - men, women, seniors, juniors, public players and private club members are all welcome to form teams and compete.

"This is a genuine competition designed to allow players of all handicaps to compete fairly. Everyone can compete evenly when it comes to putting - putting is about feel and touch - not power. Anyone has a chance to win," said Mike Bylen, managing partner of Shepherd's Hollow, who founded the event. This is not your typical putting tournament contested on the practice putting green; this competition will take place on the golf course itself. "We will use the 27-best greens in the area to determine the best putters."

Bylen expects the competition to be spirited. The event will use all of Shepherd's Hollow's undulating and complex greens to test the ability of the players to read greens and negotiate putts of varying length, speed, and slope. Each green will present uphill, downhill, side hill, or straight putts from six to 60-feet in distance. The format is two-person, best ball, which means the best score of either teammate on each hole counts.

"The greens at Shepherd's Hollow are as challenging as any in the area," said Bylen of the putting surfaces, which were designed by famed golf architect Arthur Hills. Shepherd's Hollow is a gorgeous and lush golf course that is ranked 54th among the best public courses in the nation, according to Golf Digest. The woodsy and scenic course debuted among the top-ten new courses when it opened four years ago.

Both rounds will begin with a shotgun start at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The entry fee is $125 per-team, limited to the first 72 teams. The entry includes both golf rounds including golf cart, prizes, soft drinks and hors d'oeuvres at a Saturday night reception.
