Registration Begins for 2003 Fifth Annual Phoenix Amateur Golf Championship Contact Leann Berglund (April 15, 2003) - Now is the time for golf enthusiasts to register for the fifth annual Phoenix Amateur Golf Championship, May 22nd-25th, 2003. The event makes for an ideal golf getaway, combining a dozen of the top Phoenix-area golf courses with fine hotel/resort accommodations at the valued prices of $439 per person. Following the event's success the past four years, more than 400 competitors from throughout the nation are expected to "take to the links" in the Fifth Annual 2003 Championship. All participants will receive a minimum of three rounds of golf on spectacular Greater Phoenix courses, awesome gift packs, and Thursday & Saturday night reception/scoring parties. The nightly reception/scoring parties include food & beverage, scoring, and chances to enter drawings for great prize giveaways. The flight awards ceremony will be held Saturday evening from 6-8 pm where the top three finishers in each flight will be awarded trophies & prizes. In addition, Closest-to-the-Pin, Longest Drive, and Overall Low Gross will also win golf merchandise. Discounted hotel rooms are being offered at the event's host hotel headquarters, the Tempe Mission Palms, they are offering a rate of $85 per night. The tournament entry fee is $439 per person. The Phoenix Amateur Golf Championship is a fully handicapped event and will feature divisions for Men (ages 18-54), Women (ages 18+), Senior Men (ages 55-64), and Super Senior Men (ages 65+). Flight winners in each division win prizes and the top four positions in each flight advance to play a championship round on the fourth day. The fourth day championship round will be played on a course not played the previous three days. Play begins daily before 8 a.m. to take advantage of comfortable morning temperatures. Participating golf courses include many of the old favorites from the past four tournaments. In addition, several new golf courses have been added to this year's line up. Golfers and their guests can enjoy optional afternoon activities, such as river rafting, shopping, sightseeing or relaxing poolside. The reception/scoring parties held on Thursday & Saturday night at the host hotel The Tempe Mission Palms, in Tempe, Arizona, provide a gathering for food, beverages, fun and prizes.
