(February 14, 2002) -- Ralph Maltby, the legendary golf clubmaker who authored the two best-read books on the subject, Golf Club Design, Fitting, Alteration and Repair and Ralph Matby's Complete Club Fitting Plan, will headline the seminar and workshop presentations at the 2002 Professional CLUBMAKERS' Society (PCS) International Symposium and Expo in Louisville, Ky., Feb. 28-March 3. Maltby, the founder of The GolfWorks, which sells golf club components and clubmaker equipment, will present a new golf club head-ranking process he developed called The Playability Factor.

Maltby has developed six criteria for data that he gathers on golf clubheads. He applies a mathematical formula to the data and obtains a ranking that corresponds to the level of playability of any given clubhead. The clubhead's ranking relates to the skill of the golfer who can best use the clubhead. The rankings range from Ultra Game Improvement through Classic. The PCS Expo seminar will be the first public presentation of Maltby's new head-ranking process.

PCS Board of Director's President Lou Ullrich, Golf Technologies USA, Inc., Nashville, Tenn., believes the attendees at the PCS Expo will hear first-hand about a revolutionary new process in clubmaking. "As clubmakers, we always felt that finding the correct head for a golfer is just as important as finding the correct shaft, and now there is a way. Using Maltby's system, we now have measurable evidence to show the golfer whether or not the clubhead is really helping."

Maltby's Seminar is just one of several presentations of leading-edge clubmaking technology and techniques available to attendees at the PCS Expo. Dynacraft President Jeff Jackson and Technical Manager Jeff Summitt will address Ten Ways to Improve Your Clubmaking and Fitting Expertise. Golf Science Consultants President Howard Butler will explain Joint Angle Versus Clubhead Speed, which details equipment changes related to specific body movements.

PCS Professional "Class A" Clubmakers will share their expertise in seminars entitled Beyond the Bench, Swing Flaws and Equipment Cures, and The PCS Fitting Model. Shorter workshops provide attendees with tips they can use to improve their ability to fit and build custom golf clubs. Titles are My First Year on the Tour, Reshafting Ping Woods Using the "Ping Tool," fitting Wedges and Measuring Them Using the Bounce Gauge, Taking Custom Clubs to the Customer, The Equalizer by PCS(tm), and Putter Fitting 102.

In addition, more than 50 golf component and equipment vendors will display their products in the interactive Expo exhibits. On Friday, March 1, a Golf Extravaganza Auction featuring golf packages, products and equipment will be held to benefit the PCS Tribute to Clubmaking Capital Campaign. The annual Awards Dinner on Saturday, March 2, will feature presentation of the 2002 PCS Clubmaker of the Year and inductions into the Clubmakers Hall of Fame.

Elmore Just, founder and president of Louisville Golf, builder of Persimmon Ridge Golf Course (ranked second best in Kentucky), and founder of the PCS, will be inducted posthumously into the Clubmakers Hall of Fame. Just died in 2001. Also to be inducted in legendary Augusta, Ga., clubmaker Bernie Porter.

The 2002 PCS International Symposium and Expo will be held at the Galt House East Hotel, Louisville, Ky., Feb. 28-March 3. For more information on registration and attendance, please contact PCS at 800/548-6094, or visit the PCS website, www.proclubmakers.org.
