ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (August 7, 2003) - Professional Golf is widely recognized for its contributions to local and national charities. Now, select amateur golfers across America have the opportunity to do the same through the inaugural Invitational for The First Tee.

Scheduled to take place from November 13-16, The Invitational for The First Tee (www.invitationalforthefirsttee.com) is an invitation-only event that will pit a limited number of select foursomes from leading corporations across the country against each other over 36-holes. In addition, a special one-hour highlights show will be created and produced by Kestrel Communications to air on The Golf Channel in December 2003.

"This is a tremendous event for The First Tee because it combines the elements that are so vital to our long-term success," said Joe Louis Barrow, Jr., senior vice president-executive director of The First Tee. "We rely on the support of Corporate America to help us expand our program to new markets. Further, this tournament will provide a significant level of exposure through television and publicity."

The Invitational for The First Tee will take place at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla. Teams will stay in the World Golf Village Renaissance Resort and compete on the two world-class courses at the World Golf Village: the King & Bear and the Slammer & Squire.

"The purpose of this event is to create an opportunity for executives to mix with their clients and colleagues in a competitive, yet relaxed, golf and social environment while, at the same time, providing support to The First Tee," said Barrow. "Invitations have already been mailed to select corporations across the country and spots have already been accepted. We look for this to be a major event for years to come."

The winning team will take home a special Custom Design Trophy by Waterford Crystal to display at their corporate headquarters for one year. The 2003 winning team will be invited back to defend their title in 2004.

In addition to the competitive golf, other special activities for team members include:

  • Special Opening Night Party at the Murray Bros. Caddy Shack at World Golf Village;
  • Dinner and Cocktail party at The Renaissance Resort at World Golf Village;
  • Closing Awards Ceremony at the World Golf Hall of Fame; and
  • One-hour golf instruction session at PGA TOUR Academy hosted by Calvin Peete and Scot Sackett.

The Invitational for The First Tee was conceived and created by Osprey Events Inc. and will be managed in association with All Access Sports & Event Marketing. For information about sponsorship or playing opportunities, call Amy Schaffer at 770-432-7900 or visit www.invitationalforthefirsttee.com.
