FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (April 1, 2002) -- Continuing the remarkable success of Titleist Pro V1 loyalists on the 2002 PGA Tour, Vijay Singh provided a record-setting performance in his six-stroke victory at the Shell Houston Open. It marked the 10th career victory on the PGA TOUR for Singh, who also becomes the 10th different champion to win a PGA TOUR event with the Pro V1 this year. The nearest competitor has one victory through the first 14 tournaments.

Singh topped a virtual Titleist leaderboard that featured 8 Pro V1 players who finished among the top 10 and ties. In fact, Titleist posted a top-three sweep led by Singh, runner-up Darren Clarke and third-place finisher Jose Maria Olazabal. Singh's victory is the 41st for Titleist across the worldwide professional tours to date this year, 30 more than the nearest competitor with 11.

TITLEIST HIGHLIGHTS FOR WEEK ENDING MARCH 31, 2002

  • Of the 11 players who finished among the top 10 and ties at the Shell Houston Open, more of them chose Titleist over any other manufacturer in every major equipment category: golf balls (7), driver (5), iron (3), wedges (9) and putter (8).

  • Scotty Cameron by Titleist putters were in the bags of half the field -- 72 of 144 players -- at the Shell Houston Open, including the top two finishers and eight of the players who finished among the top 10 and ties. The winner relied upon a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Pro Platinum Mid Sur model.

  • It marks the third straight victory for players trusting their success on the greens to Scotty Cameron putters and extends its PGA TOURleading victory count to five.
