Black Widow Cleats Beat Out Other Spikes in Major Tournaments

(August 17, 2001) -- Completing a remarkable run that began at the Masters and finished yesterday at the PGA Championship, Black Widow cleats by Softspikes have emerged as the clear winners over all other non-metal spike competitors as well as metal spikes.

At all three major championships played in the United States this year -- Masters, U.S. Open and PGA Championship -- more players wore Black Widow cleats than all other non-metal spikes combined. At the PGA Championship, results from the independent Darrell Survey show that those players wearing Black Widow cleats clobbered those with all other non-metal spikes combined, 66-23.

Furthermore, players wearing Black Widow cleats surpassed those with metal spikes at all three majors played in the U.S. in 2001. At the PGA Championship, the Darrell Survey count was 66 Black Widow cleats, 60 metal spikes.

Two of the top-four current PGA Tour money winners are wearing Black Widow cleats by Softspikes at the PGA Championship.

Black Widow also cleats have been worn to victory at the last three PGA Tour events -- John Deere Classic, The International, and Buick Open. A total of 13 PGA Tour events have been won this year by players wearing Black Widow cleats.

Earlier this year, two separate players set 72-hole and 90-hole PGA Tour scoring records using Black Widow cleats.

The winners of all four major championships on the Senior PGA Tour wore Black Widow cleats. More than 70 percent of the weekly fields on the Senior PGA Tour wear Black Widow cleats.
