Black WidowGAITHERSBURG, Md. (July 28, 2003) - Softspikes(R) BlackWidow(TM), the No. 1 cleat on the PGA Tour, captured the Senior British Open and Greater Hartford Open this past weekend, on the heels of capturing the 132nd British Open Championship on Sunday, July 22 at Royal St. George's in England. The recent win blitz brings Black Widow's victory total for 2003 to 13 on the major professional tours. The revolutionary golf spike also now owns four major championships in 2003, with the U.S. Open, Senior U.S. Open, British Open and Senior British Open, respectively.

These winning ways, both in the U.S. and abroad, have also come from a diverse group of players including today's superstars, rising stars of tomorrow and champions from previous eras.

"What excites us the most about our wins in 2003 is that they are coming from today's best players, the up and comers, and the greats of yesterday who are now enjoying success on the Champion's Tour," said Leo Kahl, Director of Marketing, Softspikes, Inc. "What this tells us is that Softspikes' transcend the game and have become an equipment necessity. Whether it's a course in the east, south, northwest, or even abroad, the best players in the world choose Black Widow because it enhances performance and comfort."

Industry statistics, including the independent Darrell Survey, strongly support the continued surge in Black Widow usage on the professional tours. In fact, 80% of the field that wore plastic at the GHO, including the winner, chose Black Widow - a feat achieved in 7 of the last 9 PGA Tour events. Equally impressive, 70% percent of the field that wore plastic at the British Open, played at Royal St. Georges where traction is a necessity, wore Black Widow.

"Professional tour wins are great, but to have three major wins in one season by players wearing BlackWidow is unparalleled," adds Kahl. "The British Open and Sr. British Open, especially, are events where players need traction more than ever, and to have the winners wear Black Widow is a tremendous testament to the product."

SoftspikesToday, 99 percent of all shoes made in America are shipped with plastic cleats. Black Widow cleats with DCT are No. 1 in sales worldwide and are original equipment on FootJoy performance golf shoes.

Recently, Pride Golf Tee Company, the leading worldwide manufacturer of golf tees, acquired Softspikes, Inc., the pioneer of and worldwide leader in plastic golf cleats. The new entity is known as Pride/Softspikes. Through its innovative displays and packaging, Pride/Softspikes encourages all golfers to maximize their performance by checking their cleats. They just may need a change.
