(July 15, 2003) - While Black Widow cleats by Softspikes, a division of Pride Manufacturing, rarely leave impressions on greens, they certainly left quite an impression in Milwaukee. The top four finishers at the Greater Milwaukee Open, including the winner, chose to wear Black Widow cleats.

Players wearing Black Widow cleats have now won 11 PGA Tour events this year. Black Widow cleats have also represented at least 80% of the plastic field in five of the last six PGA Tour events played. At the Greater Milwaukee Open, 82% of the players wearing plastic cleats chose to wear Black Widows.

All of those figures are verified by the independent Darrell Survey, which only certifies brands of plastic cleats worn each week on the PGA Tour and the other major professional tours in the United States. The Darrell Survey does not "brand" the use of metal spikes, which account for less than 1 percent of the products American golfers wear on the bottom of their golf shoes.

Worldwide golf footwear leader FootJoy(R) was the first shoe company to convert all of its lines from metal spikes to plastic cleats (Softspikes brand cleats). Today, 99 percent of all shoes made in America are shipped with plastic cleats, including the ones worn by the winner of the Greater Milwaukee Open. More than 63% of the field at the Greater Milwaukee Open, including the winner, wore FootJoy shoes.

Black Widow cleats, with DCT, are number one in sales worldwide and are original equipment on all FootJoy performance golf shoes.

Recently, Pride Golf Tee Company, the leading worldwide manufacturer of golf tees, acquired Softspikes, Inc., the pioneer of and worldwide leader in plastic golf cleats.

Through its innovative displays and packaging, Pride Golf Tee Company and Softspikes encourage all golfers to maximize their performance by checking their cleats. They just may need a change.
