Pride/Softspikes Dominates Plastic Cleats at The Heritage Eighty-Six (86) Percent of PGA Tour Field Chooses Leading Brand Contact Kelly Elbin At The Heritage, on Hilton Head Island, S.C., 86 percent of the plastic cleats worn were from the Pride/Softspikes family. As usual, Black Widow cleats led the assault, with 69 players using the No. 1 Cleat on the PGA Tour. All of these figures are verified by the independent Darrell Survey, which only certifies brands of plastic cleats worn each week on the PGA Tour and the other major professional tours in the United States. The Darrell Survey does not "brand" the use of metal spikes, which account for less than 1 percent of the products American golfers wear on the bottom of their golf shoes. In each of the past two weeks on the PGA Tour -- The Masters and The Heritage -- Pride/Softspikes has totaled more than 85 percent of the plastic cleats worn by the best golfers in the world. Thus far in 2003, four PGA Tour events have been won by players wearing Black Widow cleats. Black Widow cleats with DCT are No. 1 in sales worldwide and are original equipment on FootJoy performance golf shoes. Recently, Pride Golf Tee Company, the leading worldwide manufacturer of golf tees, acquired Softspikes, Inc., the pioneer of and worldwide leader in plastic golf cleats. The new entity is known as Pride/Softspikes. Through its innovative displays and packaging, Pride/Softspikes encourages all golfers to maximize their performance by checking their cleats. They just may need a change. |
