OSWEGO, Ill. (October 21, 2002) - SMT Golf heads (www.smtgolf.com) were used to win both the Men's Open and Senior division titles of last weekend's ReMax World Long Drive Championship, which was held in Mesquite, Nevada. Carl Wolter used an SMT "455 Deep Bore" to hit a 384-yard lightning strike that electrified the crowd and shocked the established Long Drive community. Pat Dempsey hit his SMT "Nemesis" six yards past his nearest competitor to grab the Senior division (45 years and older) crown. Both competitors credited their SMT club heads as an essential part of their victories.
Not only did SMT earn titles in two divisions, SMT was also the # 1 head used in the finals of all divisions. In the Men's Open SMT heads were used by champion Carl Wolter, 4th place finisher George Slupski and 7th place finisher Vince Ciurluini. Champion Pat Dempsey was joined in the Senior division by 4th place finalist Mike Hooper and 6th place finisher Fred Hooter. Jo D Duncan used an SMT head to finish in 2nd place in the Women's division finals. Additionally, SMT heads were used to hit the three longest balls of the tournament. Wolter's 384-yard drive in the finals came in at # 3. Carl also hit a 395-yard bomb in the semi-finals. In a preliminary round, George Slupski earned his nickname, "The Animal" by blasting a 409-yard rocket with his SMT "Nemesis."
