AUSTIN, Texas - Pelz Golf is proud to announce the commercial release of the PelzmeterTM, the newest and most accurate device for measuring green-speeds.

Originally designed in the Pelz Golf Institute as a research tool to precisely measure the speed of sloping greens, the PelzmeterTM has been well-received and ordered by superintendents and golf course owners interested in a more reliable and accurate means of measuring all the greens on their home courses.

The Pelzmeter measures the same characteristic of green-speed, on the same scale established by the Stimpmeter (commonly used for measuring green-speed for the last 26 years), but with greater accuracy. The Pelzmeter accomplishes improved accuracy by eliminating or reducing the four main sources of error in Stimpmeter measurements as commonly performed:

1) ball release height variations (due to human error and ball-dimple-flat interaction with the Stimpmeter ball notch)
2) ball bounce (at impact from a straight ramp onto the green surface)
3) tracking effects (balls rolling in the roll-track of a previously rolled ball)
4) slope effects (averaging up and downhill roll distances)

The PelzmeterTM employs an interior level and ball-radiused surfaces to hold and release balls from a consistent height. Its curved ramp releases balls horizontally onto the green, minimizing bouncing. The Pelzmeters three side-by-side grooves roll each ball over a parallel, untouched surface of the green to avoid tracking effects.

The PelzmeterTM is also equipped with a computer-chip-programmed calculator, which applies a mathematical formula to eliminate the effect of gravity, so green-speed can be determined regardless of a greens' slope. This enables users to measure true green-speeds on virtually all greens on a course, instead of only the few greens where level spots can be found (as common use of the Stimpmeter demands).

"We've helped some pretty prominent tournament operations get valuable green-speed measurements from our Pelzmeters", says Eddie Pelz. "If course operators really want to know, and be able to control, the speed and consistency of their greens, they should really consider using a one."

Available exclusively from Pelz Golf, the Pelzmeter is shipped ready for use, complete with balanced golf balls, measuring tape, data pads, instruction manual and padded canvas carrying case. The PelzmeterTM retails for $649.95.
