BEAVERTON, Ore. (March 24, 2003) - Nike Golf's Tour Staff enjoyed its most successful weekend, to date, with a historical win by Tiger Woods and Top 10 finishes by Stewart Cink, Aaron Baddeley, Pat Perez and Stephen Ames at the Bay Hill Invitational (Orlando, Fla.) and Grace Park and Lorena Ochoa at the Safeway Championship (Phoenix, Ariz.).

"A weekend as successful as this reminds us how far we have come in a relatively short time with our Tour Staff and the equipment we provide them," said Kel Devlin, Global Sports Marketing Director. "We'll look back on this weekend as a milestone years from now."

Tiger Woods

Woods, playing the Nike Forged Titanium Driver, Forged Blade Irons and Tour Accuracy TW golf ball, captured a record, fourth-straight Bay Hill Invitational, joining Gene Sarazen and Walter Hagen as the only players to win an event four consecutive times. The victory is

  • Woods' third in just four starts this year, despite suffering a bout with food poison on the final day;
  • Woods' 20th since switching to the Tour Accuracy TW from Nike Golf in 2000;
  • Woods' eighth since putting the Nike Forged Titanium Driver in play early in 2002;
  • Woods' fourth win in nine starts, all top ten, since adding Nike's Forged Blade Irons to his bag in September '02.

Grace Park

Park is off to the best start of her young career. She followed up her T4 finish at the season opening Welch's/Fry's Championship with a 2nd place finish at the Safeway Championship, just one stroke behind the leader. Park is:

  • Playing Nike Golf's new TA2 SPN, with a lower trajectory and slightly higher spin rate than that of the new TA2 LNG;
  • The first woman to put Nike Golf clubs in play;
  • Carrying Nike Golf's 400cc Forged Titanium Driver with a 9-degree loft; the 3 (15-degree), 4 (17-degree), and 5 (19-degree) T-40 Tour Fairway Woods; the Forged Pro Combo Irons (4-PW); and the 53, 55 and 58-degree Forged Wedges.

Stewart Cink

Cink enjoyed a T2 finish at the Bay Hill Invitational playing Nike Golf's TA2 LNG. He is carrying custom, forged half-cavity irons (4-PW) from Nike Golf (incorrectly listed on the weekly standard Tour equipment list); a Tour Strong #3 T-40 Fairway Wood (13-degree); and 56 and 60-degree Forged Wedges.

Aaron Baddeley

PGA rookie Aaron Baddeley, playing Nike Golf's TA2 LNG, showed the poise and patience of a Tour veteran at Bay Hill. He finished 6th after opening the 2003 season with a second place, play-off finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Lorena Ochoa

Ochoa, playing Nike Golf's new TA2 LNG, finished 6th at the Safeway Championship this weekend. The 21-year old LPGA rookie bested her season debut, a T16 finish at the Welch's/Fry's Championship. Ochoa's third-round 64 tied for the low round of the tournament.

Pat Perez

Perez, playing the TA2 SPN from Nike Golf, finished Bay Hill tied for 10th, second only this year to his T6 finish at the Bob Hope Classic. He is carrying a 400cc Nike Forged Titanium Driver; custom, forged half-cavity irons (3-PW) from Nike Golf; a Tour Strong #3 T-40 Fairway Wood (13-degree); and 55 and 60-degree Forged Wedges.

Stephen Ames

Recent Tour Staff addition Stephen Ames, playing the TA2 LNG from Nike Golf, finished Bay Hill tied for 10th, second only this year to his T8 finish at the Bob Hope Classic. He is carrying a 300cc Nike Forged Titanium Driver; Forged Pro Combo irons (2-PW); and 53 and 60-degree Forged Wedges.
