BEAVERTON, Ore. (August 11, 2003) - The Nationwide Tour's Bo Van Pelt captured his first victory as a professional golfer on Sunday at the Omaha Classic in Omaha, Nebraska before one of the largest crowds to witness a Nationwide Tour event. His final round 62 is the lowest on the Nationwide (formerly Nike and Buy.com) Tour by a winner since 1995 and his total score of 262 is the lowest this year on the Nationwide Tour.

Van Pelt, whose Driving Distance average was over 327 yards in Omaha, is the fourth Nike Golf staff player in the past three weeks to win or finish in the top three on one of the leading professional tours with Nike's 400cc or 450cc Forged Titanium Driver:

  • July 20 - Grace Park (400cc Forged Titanium Driver/TA2-LNG golf ball) finished in third place at the Sybase Big Apple Classic in New Rochelle, NY. It was her second third-place finish in as many weeks.
  • July 27 - Michael Campbell (400cc Forged Titanium Driver/Forged Pro Combo Irons/TA2-LNG golf ball) returned to form by winning the Irish Open in Dublin, Ireland.
  • August 3 - Kyle Thompson (450cc Forged Titanium Driver/Forged Pro Combo Irons/TA2-LNG golf ball) had his best finish as a professional with a second-place at the Chattanooga Classic on the Nationwide Tour.

Van Pelt carries Nike Golf's 450cc Forged titanium Driver, Forged Pro Combo Irons (3-9) and a 15-degree Tour T-40 Fairway Wood. He tees up the ever popular TA2-LNG, the Official Practice Ball of the Nationwide Tour, and now the choice of 28 professionals on the Nationwide Tour. More than 70 players worldwide now use the TA2-LNG and TA2 SPN.

More than 40 professional Tour players use Nike Golf's Forged Titanium Drivers and Forged Blade or Forged Pro Combo Irons.

Van Pelt also used a Blue Chip putter from Nike Golf throughout the tournament. Van Pelt is the first player to win on a major professional tour with one of Nike Golf's putters from the Blue Chip Series.

Van Pelt put the BC101, a heel-toe putter, in play just recently. The BC101 has dual-density weighting with a soft, blue aluminum insert that is 65 percent lighter and 73 percent softer than steel which allows for added weight redistribution in the heel and toe while enhancing feel and forgiveness. The center of gravity (CG) is positioned deeper in the clubhead to reduce skidding, allowing the ball to roll more quickly and on a truer line.

The BC101 (SRP: $129) joins the BC002 mid-mallet putter (SRP: $129) and the OZ mallet putter (SRP: $169) in Nike Golf's Blue Chip Putter Series.
