Science of Magnetics, Exclusive SST PURE Shafts Highlight Golf's Latest Innovation
Contact Mike Hoye ATLANTA (April 19, 2002) -- Atlanta-based NEXT Technology Golf announced today the launch of its new Magnetix Driver, a club that has been in research and development for more than four years and features technology never before seen in the golf equipment industry. Inside the clubhead of the 360 cubic centimeter Magnetix Driver is a patented magnetic assembly that, through the science of magnetostriction, supplies increased strength and reinforcement to the face of the golf club. According to NEXT, the hardened titanium face minimizes trampoline effect and transfers more energy into the golf ball at impact. The result is a ball that comes off hotter with less vertical and lateral spin for longer drivers with greater accuracy. "For the last four years we have spent exhaustive amounts of time and energy to perfect the technology behind the Magnetix Driver," said NEXT Technology Golf Founder Joe Stafford. "This technology has never been utilized in the golf industry and our tests prove that this driver performs. We are confident that the Magnetix Driver will go into a lot of golf bags come the second half of the PGA and Senior PGA Tour seasons." NEXT also announced that it has reached an agreement with Miami-based Strategic Shaft Technologies, LC (SST) to utilize the patented SST PURE shaft alignment process in every Magnetix Driver. No shaft is perfectly round, straight or stiff throughout its length. Despite modern manufacturing techniques every golf shaft, whether steel or composite, remains individually unique and cannot be fully analyzed until after the shaft has been manufactured. Using state-of-the art computerized equipment, the SST process identifies the principal planar oscillation plane to PURE each shaft. Before each Magnetix shaft is painted, it is analyzed and PUREd to SST standards to determine its most stable orientation, resulting in optimum impact repeatability and consistency. The SST PURE process is currently available through select custom clubmakers, but NEXT will be the only golf club manufacturer to include a PUREd shaft in every new club it sells. "SST PURE technology is poised to become the standard for the way golf clubs are assembled," said SST chairman Dick Weiss. "Once golfers experience the feel and performance of a PUREd shaft, they'll never go back to randomly assembled clubs." "Nowhere in the history of the industry have two so unique technologies come together to compliment each other in the performance of a golf club," said Stafford. "The Magnetix driver isn't something one of the major companies would even consider offering to the playing public. What we have here is the NEXT major change in technology and product performance." The Magnetix will be offered with A-shafts (ladies and seniors), R-shafts (regular), S-shafts (stiff), Tour S (firm stiff), and X-Flex, in lofts of eight, nine and 10 degrees. The price of the Magnetix Driver is $399. Overseeing the launch of the Magnetix Driver is NEXT Technology Golf President Nathaniel Crosby. The 1981 U.S. Amateur Champion, Crosby most recently served as executive vice president of Orlimar Golf where he was involved in the hugely successful launch of that company's TriMetal line of fairway woods. "It has been a long-time goal of mine to take a golf company from its inception and turn it into a serious player in the equipment industry," said Crosby. "With our innovative technology and partnership with SST, and with the strong team of investors behind NEXT Technology Golf, I think we have a chance to be the next success story in golf." NEXT Technology Golf is now introducing the Magnetix Driver on The Golf Channel with a 30-minute show hosted by former U.S. Open Champion Jerry Pate.
