NORCROSS, Ga. (August 6, 2002) - Mizuno builds upon decades of leadership in golf club design and forging expertise with the introduction of the new MP30 forged irons. Featuring Mizuno's well-established Grain Flow Forging technology, the MP30 irons offer the soft, solid feel that has long been associated with every Mizuno forged iron. While maintaining the classic design tradition of previous MP forged irons, Mizuno developed the MP30 with a unique half-cavity to provide both playability and maneuverability for every golfer that strives to shape the flight of the ball without sacrificing the forgiveness of a true cavity.

The Mizuno R&D Team engineered the MP30 to appeal to wide range of players. With a larger face than traditional muscle back irons and perimeter weighting created by the half-cavity design, the MP30 helps the golfer elevate the ball and execute shots with accuracy from all types of lies. The traditional top line gives players a sharp, clean appearance at address, while the added mass behind the striking area provides the unmistakable solid, soft forged feeling at impact and enables golfers with the ability to work the ball as the shot dictates.

"The MP30 is the ultimate player's club with the look of a blade and the forgiveness of a cavity back," said Dick Lyons, Vice President and General Manager, Golf Division for Mizuno USA, Inc. "The beauty and functionality of this design coupled with the unmistakable feel of a Mizuno Grain Flow Forged iron, set the MP-30 in a category of its own."

In the MP30, Mizuno goes beyond traditional design differentiation from one club to another. A progressive cavity design in the MP30 maintains the solid feel while offering playability in the long irons more workability in the short irons. In addition, a rolled leading edge, cambered mid-sole, and beveled trailing edge deliver consistent striking ability from all types of lies. The design elements of each MP30 club-head are specifically engineered to achieve maximum performance and the ideal shot for that particular club.

"The MP30 enhances every aspect of shot-making including accuracy, trajectory, and ball flight," added Lyons. "The forging processes that we've worked diligently to perfect over the years combined with extensive investment in R&D have really paid off with the look, feel, and performance of the MP30."

The MP30 is Grain Flow Forged from 1025 select mild carbon steel for outstanding feel and features deep, computer-milled modified U-grooves for an optimal spin rate and maximum playability in all conditions. The MP30 is finished with a durable double nickel chrome plating with mirror finish for a clean, distinct appearance emblematic of Mizuno's many highly regarded MP series irons in the past.

The MP30 will be offered with True Temper(R) Dynamic Gold(R) shafts standard in steel. Also standard on the MP30 will be the Golf Pride(R) Tour Velvet '58 Round grip. Custom options are available through Mizuno's Custom Club department. Mizuno will begin shipping the MP30 irons to accounts in mid-August. Suggested retail price for a standard set (3-PW) is $1,099.00. The MP30 will be offered in both right and left-handed models, and a 2-iron is available in both.
