NEWARK, Ohio (March 26, 2003) - Great golf equipment does not require a second mortgage! The Golfworks and veteran golf club designers Ralph Maltby and Britt Lindsey have created the perfect combination of great design and great value in the new DistanceMaster Series of components.

"We wanted to introduce some value products to clubmakers that were also quality products," said Britt Lindsey, Vice President of Technical Services and Product Development for The GolfWorks. "Not every customer of a custom clubmaker wants the most high tech and expensive club. They want a good-looking, high-quality product that performs, at a good price. That is what DistanceMaster is all about.

"Through countless hours of evaluation and testing, we were able to produce product that will perform as well, if not better, than many of the much more expensive offerings out there. A clubmaker can build a set of steel-shafted irons for around $100. A Titanium driver with a graphite shaft can be built for under $75. This allows the clubmaker to actually make some margin and still compete with some of the lower-priced equipment on the market. Equipment that is typically not of very good quality."

The DistanceMaster line includes three series of matching metal woods and irons -- Pro Steel, Pro Launch and Pro Balanced -- as well as a wedge series, a putter series, a quality chipper and a complete line of graphite shafts. It's a full line of components that is full of opportunity for custom clubmakers.

  • The DistanceMaster Pro Steel driver is a 300cc Hyper Steel (High-Strength Steel) head that truly applies the latest in materials technology to a stainless steel driver. The high strength of Hyper Steel allows for a thinner face design, which increases spring effect. Driver loft is 10 degrees. Fairway woods are 17-4 stainless and set up to the ball perfectly. The irons are 431 stainless and are a beautiful high-polish stainless with a bead blasted cavity. The Playability Factor Rating puts these clubs in the super game improvement category for a set anyone can play! Pro Steel woods and irons are available in RH and LH.

  • The DistanceMaster Pro Launch Titanium driver is designed with proven playability features to maximize launch angle and get the ball airborne and down the fairway. Four-piece forged titanium construction and a 6-4 titanium face provide great feel, sound and performance. At under $55, it is truly a great value! The driver is available in 9 and 10.5 degree lofts. Fairway woods have the same unique design characteristics and are made of 17-4 stainless. Pro Launch 431 stainless steel irons have a great look with a shot peen finish and blasted tri level cavity. The blade profile is slightly more traditional in shape, but the performance is definitely Game Improvement, according to the Maltby Playability Factor.

  • The DistanceMaster Pro Balanced Titanium driver is a favorite of The GolfWorks Product Development team for its overall look and performance. The sole design is striking and the 6-4 Titanium four-piece forged construction provides high-tech performance at a great price (also under $55). The driver is available in 9.5 and 10.5 degree lofts. The 17-4 stainless steel fairway woods set up great behind the ball and offer slightly stronger lofts to maximize distance. Pro Balance irons are mid-size, Super Game Improvement designs that will benefit a broad range of players. A slightly larger hitting area and a progressive offset allow these irons to set up great behind the ball. The notched cavity gives the design added heel and toe weighting which translates into added forgiveness. Like the Pro Steel, this is a design all golfers can play, and a head of this quality and playability for under $7 is hard to find.

  • Complementing the DistanceMaster woods and irons are the DM Series Wedges -- high-polished classic designs available in three lofts: 52, 56 and 60 degrees. Manufactured from a softened 431 stainless material, DM Wedges give the player a great feeling wedge for a fraction of the cost of "name brand" wedges.

  • DM Accusite series of putters are made of zinc, but with the appearance and feel of stainless steel. These putters have a sprayed ceramic insert that increases the surface durability of the face and give them a great look. A model is also available for belly and long putters.

  • A series of graphite shafts, manufactured exclusively for The GolfWorks by Rapport, round out the DistanceMaster line. Created with a full range of playability options at a price that all golfers can afford -- $19.95 each -- DM Series shafts offer a great opportunity for golfers to upgrade to graphite.
