Davis Love III Trusts FootJoy to Capture Fifth Career MCI Heritage Classic Contact Jared Kelowitz FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (April 21, 2003) - Saving his best for last, Davis Love III relied on FootJoy equipment for a thrilling come-from-behind playoff victory at the MCI Heritage. Love's dramatic chip-in on the 72nd hole forced a sudden death playoff. On the fourth playoff hole, Love hit the pin with a six-iron and converted a three-foot birdie putt for his third title of the year. For Love, it marked his 17th career PGA Tour victory and fifth career Heritage crown (1987, 1991, 1992, 1998, 2003). LOVE NOTES: Davis Love III, trusting FootJoy Classics Dry Premiere golf shoe and the FootJoy F3 golf glove became the third player to capture three titles through the first 16 events on the 2003 PGA TOUR, winning once each in the months of February (AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am), March (The PLAYERS Championship) and now April (MCI Heritage). Also, FootJoy GelFusion wearer Mike Weir (Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, Nissan Open and Masters Tournament) is among the other two three-time winners this year. The playoff at the MCI Heritage was the fifth of the 2003 PGA Tour season. The champion at all five events chose FootJoy as their golf shoe of choice in victory. In addition to Love's (Classics Dry Premiere) achievement at the MCI Heritage, Mike Weir (FootJoy GelFusion) won last week's Masters, Scott Hoch (DryJoys) won the Ford Championship at Doral, Weir (GelFusion) won the Nissan Open, and Ernie Els (Classics Dry Premiere) captured the Sony Open in Hawaii. Love's $810,000 winner's check improves his 2003 PGA TOUR earnings to $3,685,645 and moves him to the No. 1 position on the money list. He has already won more money this year than he has ever won in a single season during his illustrious career. It also marks the 12th victory in 16 events (75%) for FootJoy on the 2003 PGA Tour. |
