adidas Torsion 3-Stripe golf shoeCARLSBAD, Calif. (August 15, 2003) -- adidas Golf has introduced two new men's footwear models, the Torsion(R) 3-Stripe and Torsion(R) Saddle, both targeted at avid golfers.

"The Torsion(R) 3-Stripe and Torsion(R) Saddle are replacements for our best-selling shoe of all time, the Tour Traxion, and represent the next generation of lightweight, athletic footwear from adidas Golf," says Brett Joyce, Director of Footwear for adidas Golf.

Both the Torsion(R) 3-Stripe and Torsion(R) Saddle are engineered with adidas Golf's Torsion(R) Support Bar, a part of the outsole that extends from the heel to the forefoot. The Torsion(R) Support Bar's function is to permit the forefoot and heel to rotate independently during the golf swing, adding to the player's stability and balance, especially when playing from an uneven lie.

The Torsion(R) 3-Stripe and Torsion(R) Saddle also incorporate a variety of additional performance features, including

  • adidas Golf's Z-Traxion(R) sole design, featuring 168 points of contact for extreme traction.
  • Dual forefoot flex grooves, which are positioned in the outsole and which flex freely with each stride, increasing comfort.
  • FitFoam(TM) comfort footbed that cradles the food for a snug, comfortable fit.
  • adiPRENE(R) heel, a proprietary cushioning material designed to reduce the harmful effects on the foot and body that can result from the repetitive impact of walking.
  • Textile lining to keep feet drier.
  • Soft leather upper for increased comfort and reduced irritation and blistering.

adidas Torsion Saddle golf shoeAn additional performance benefit of the Torsion(R) 3-Stripe and Torsion(R) Saddle is their exceptionally light weight, due in part to their light EVA midsole. "The Torsion(R) 3-Stripe weighs only 15.5 ounces per shoe, while the Torsion(R) Saddle is even less at 14.4 ounces each," says Joyce. "That translates to more comfort and less fatigue, especially toward the end of the round."

Both new models feature athletic styling and an appealing, sculptured midsole. The Torsion(R) 3-Stripe is available in four color combinations: white / espresso, white / black, black / black, and white / Navajo. The Torsion(R) Saddle is available in two color combinations: white / espresso and white / black. Both models will be offered in wide widths, come with a two-year waterproof warranty, and carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $105. Retail distribution begins October 1, 2003 through on- and off-course golf shops.
