Z-Traxion 3-Stripe golf shoeCARLSBAD, Calif. (August 15, 2003) -- adidas Golf, maker of the Z-Traxion(R) Tour golf shoe, worn by more than 200 athletes around the world including Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Retief Goosen and Hank Kuehne, has introduced the next generation of Z-Traxion(R): the Z-Traxion(R) 3-Stripe and Z-Traxion(R) Classic.

The Z-Traxion(R) 3-Stripe and Z-Traxion(R) Classic, which will replace the Z-Traxion(R) Tour, feature several technological improvements that deliver improved traction and comfort, including:

  • TPU Z-Traxion(R) lugs (a proprietary adidas Golf technology) strategically positioned in a new, dual-density pattern on the sole, resulting in 168 points of contact between the sole and the turf, equaling enhanced gripping power.
  • New, proprietary Torsion Bar located in the sole and designed to provide mid-foot support while allowing the forefoot and heel to rotate independently. The Torsion Bar allows the sole to conform more closely to the terrain on awkward uphill, downhill and sidehill lies, providing the athlete with more stability and promoting better balance, contributing to improved ball-striking from uneven lies.
  • New, proprietary adidas spike design, manufactured by Pride/Softspikes and engineered to provide the best possible traction, and for rapid replacement.
  • Stable TPU outsole with forefoot flex grooves.
  • Light overall weight - 16.4 ounces per shoe.

Z-Traxion Classic golf shoeLike the Z-Traxion(R) Tour, the 3-Stripe and Classic also feature a lightweight EVA midsole that incorporates adidas' proprietary adiPRENE(R) in the heel, a soft-yet-resilient material that combines cushion with support, as well as a FitFoam(TM) comfort footbed. Both new models also incorporate high-quality elements that contribute to a traditional look, such as Pittard's(R) leather uppers, leather lining and defined heels.

The Z-Traxion(R) 3-Stripe and Z-Traxion(R) Classic share the same performance technologies, with the two models differing mainly in cosmetics. The 3-Stripe features a quilted, three-dimensional three-stripe application on the upper, and is available in five color options: white/black white/Navajo, white/espresso, black/black, espresso/espresso and coffee/coffee. The Classic features single-color, cap-toe styling, and is available in two color options: coffee/coffee and black/black.

"The Z-Traxion(R) 3-Stripe and Z-Traxion(R) Classic each succeed in uniting cutting edge performance technologies with rich uppers that are timeless in appearance," says Brett Joyce, Director of Footwear for adidas Golf. "We're confident that both of these new models will appeal to serious golfers of all ages."

Both the Z-Traxion(R) 3-Stripe and Z-Traxion(R) Classic are available in wide widths, include a two-year waterproof warranty and carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $140 per pair. Retail distribution begins October 1 through on- and off-course golf shops.
